Antarctic Specially Managed Areas An Antarctic Specially Managed Area (ASMA) is an area of Antarctica designated by the Committee for Environmental Protection adopted at the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting. An ASMA is an area where activities are being conducted or may be conducted in the future, to assist in the planning and co-ordination of activities, avoid possible conflicts, improve co-operation between Parties or minimize environmental impacts.
